Top Performing NYC Charter Schools Recruit Teaching Candidates at the 12th Annual Metro NY Charter School Career Fair
New York, NY— Charter School Jobs, Inc. is proud to announce the 12th Annual Metro NY Charter School Career Fair once again was a big success. Today, on the campus of Teachers College, Columbia University, roughly 425 instructional professionals connected with 55 charter school organizations from the metropolitan New York City area and beyond. Over 90% of attending candidates were certified teachers or current Masters of Education students who will be certified by the beginning of the 2014-15 school-year. The event was sponsored by two of the top-performing charter school networks in the country: Success Academy Charter Schools and KIPP NYC. The event was produced in partnership with Teachers College, Office of Career Services.

This year the career fair felt a lot like family coming together. It was a time to connect with highly qualified teaching candidates and reconnect with fellow charter school colleagues. It was especially personal for me, because this year for the first time, I am a proud charter school parent myself as my daughter is a new Kindergartner at Girls Prep LES. I am thankful and blown away by the incredible hard-work and dedication of my charter school clients’ and now my own child’s teachers. I am honored that so many charter schools trust us to help them find the kind of wonderful teachers that are transforming the lives of so many children who would otherwise be forced to attend failing traditional public schools.
For the 8th year in a row, event tables sold out. Mr. Strong says finding great candidates is getting harder, because the job market for teachers is re-igniting. “With the NYC DOE now hiring new teachers in earnest again, qualified teaching candidates suddenly have more options. We (charters) were the only game in town for a few years, but that is now changing.” He expects the war for talent to continue to intensify as more and more charters enter the market looking for teachers.
